Lady Warriors advance, take on Vincennes in Round 2

INA, Ill. (March 4, 2020) — The Lady Warriors wrapped up a season sweep of John A. Logan College with a 71-52 victory at home Tuesday night.

The Rend Lake College women’s basketball team beat the Lady Vols twice during the regular season and didn’t relent during the first-round matchup in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division I Basketball Midwest District Championships tournament. The Lady Warriors jumped out to an early lead and never trailed for the entire game.

Dais’Ja Trotter led the Lady Warriors in scoring with 22 points and Maddie Buford added 14. Coach Dave Brown highlighted the all-around effort of Megan Beery who did a little bit of everything when asked to play all five positions during the contest.

Who’s up next?

The Lady Warriors will take on Vincennes University in the Midwest District semifinal at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5 at Rend Lake College. Vincennes was the No. 2 seed entering the tournament with RLC holding the No. 3 seed.

The Trailblazers gave RLC trouble during the regular season. The Lady Warriors fell to Vincennes 98-73 at home in December and then 111-79 on the road in February. The Lady Warriors do get the home-court advantage as host of the Midwest District tournament.

“Vincennes is a top 25 team that we have played tough but not for a whole game,” Brown said. “I know these girls we have are playing their best ball at the right time. Toughness wins on Thursday.”

With a victory on Thursday, the Lady Warriors would face the winner of the No. 1 Wabash Valley vs. No. 4 Olney Central in the Midwest District Championship final at 5 p.m. Friday, March 6 at Rend Lake College.
