RLC Head Softball Coach Dave Ellingsworth is excited by a Lady Warrior squad with a lot of depth and versatility.

"We aren't necessarily more talented than last year's team. But this season I have a lot more options. I've got the same number of players, but we are really deep. We've got a lot of players who can handle different positions on the field at a college level. It just gives me some more options," said RLC Head Softball Coach Dave Ellingsworth.

In particular, the Warriors are going to sport a very strong, albeit young, pitching rotation

The team also has a strong mix of freshmen and sophomores this season with 10 in their first season at RLC and six entering their second year with the program.

Ellingsworth expects another tough year during region play with powerhouses like Wabash and Lake Land continuing to field strong squads.

"There are going to be six or so teams that are all going to be right in the mix," he said. "I think we can beat them, but my primary goal is making sure we finish top four in the region to secure home field going into the post-season."

RLC Softball kicks off the season Thursday, Feb. 28 against Shawnee in Ullin. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. The Lady Warriors play their first home game on March 1 against Kankakee. That game also has a 2 p.m. start time.
