Hall of Fame Class of 2018

Induction Ceremony - April 21, 2018

Ronnie Henderson | Men's Basketball (1971-1973)

Makes perfect sense the Mt. Vernon native would make a career out of being a Correctional Officer at Big Muddy River Correctional Center; after all, did he not spend his first two post-high school years in Ina as the “Enforcer” for the RLC Warriors? Neither friend nor foe challenged the 6-foot-4 Forward/Strongman as a two-time All-Southern Illinois College Conference First-Team selection.

⭐ Thanks to his record-367 rebounds as a freshman and career mark of 604 (226 O + 378 D), Coach Jim Waugh’s squads went 38-17, with a best-ever 20-6 slate and SICC crown (7-1) his final season. The career standard stood for 23 years before overcome by NJCAA First-Team All-America Bryant Lowe; the 367 high was still standing long after that.

⭐ No. 32 averaged 14.4 ppg (417 total) and 12.7 rpg as a rookie, when he also led at 76.5% (101-132) from the FT line, then matched that 14.4 a year later (374 in three fewer games), settled for 9.1 rpg while sharing boards with 6-9 mate Roy Rieckenberg and 6-5 Randy Lemay and averaged 2.3 assists .

⭐ RLC won first eight games in ’72-73 and 10 of last 11 before losing its second post-season outing. Warriors broke 90-point bar 13 times and yet set defensive record-low yield at 72.2, with its first and last losses by two points.

⭐ Two teams set six Game and 11 Season records while scoring 80-plus points in two-thirds of games.

⭐ Continued career at Marion College (Indiana Wesleyan U.).

⭐ Joins HOF ranks that include teammates Lemay and Brad Weathers, Coaches Waugh and Mike McClure.

Tracy Hyatt | Women's Basketball (1986-1988)

Leading scorer both seasons for winningest teams back-to-back in Lady Warrior annals – 26-5 in ’86-87 and 25-8 in ’87-88.

⭐ Departed as No. 2 point-producer all-time for program in 11th year of existence. Career total of 1,026 points puts the 5-foot-10 forward in select company along with new HOF “teammates” Susie Woodward, Rebecca Harris, Cheryl Weis and Amanda Willoughby.

⭐ No. 20 was two-time All-GRAC pick and All-Region XXIV as soph after leading Coach Jim Waugh’s quintet in scoring 19 outings, 13 of those with 20-plus, with highs of 31 at Kaskaskia and 32 in a Danville Area Tourney championship win over the hosts. She averaged 17.8 ppg and 2.3 assists, but her rebound tally slipped to 3.4 with the addition of 6-2 Weis.

⭐ Hit 54.6% FG, inc. 19 of team’s total of 23 treys in first year of 3-point line, and 83.8% FT (67-80), No. 5 nationally.

⭐ As a newcomer sharing spotlight with Soph Cynthia Wessel, she posted 15.7 ppg, 8.4 rpg and 3.2 steals/recoveries. Led team in scoring 9x and rebounding 10x, with 20+ points 5x, inc. 30 at Shawnee and 32 (record 16 FG) and 12 boards in 70-69 regular-season finale triumph over Wabash Valley. Also had 17 rebounds in rout of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods (IN).

⭐ Career: 16.8 ppg (51% FG, 70% FT), 5.8 rpg.

⭐ Other two-year contributors to 51 victories were frontliners Karen Poninski and Becky Orrick Artis and backcourt duo of Carol Ray and Stephanie Sides.

⭐ Hoosier native (Owensville / Gibson Southern H.S.) returned to complete career for U. of Evansville Aces.

Scott Wagner | Baseball (1978-1980)

First Team All-State Catcher recognition as a freshman after hitting .373 (28-75) in Spring ’79.

⭐ Tough act to follow? Apparently not. The Mt. Vernon product upped his average to .450 (27-60) the following Fall and helped Coach Mike McClure’s ninth squad post his 250th win and gain a share of its third Southern Illinois College Conference championship. He was named All-SICC, along with teammates SS Doug Creel and 3B Gary Denbo.

⭐ The 6-foot-2, 195-pounder produced a team-record 60 RBIs in as many games (41-19) and a record five home runs as a Sophomore. The RBI total was 19 more than the previous high and 24 more than the team runner-up. Overall in the combined 1979-80 season he batted .369 (65-176) with a .551 slugging percentage.

⭐ The athletic, not-your-stereotypical backstop also stole 21 bases and scored 51 runs as the ’79-80 Warriors set new standards for Wins, Batting Average (.295), Hits (490), Runs (407) and RBIs (336).

⭐ More honors: All-Great Lakes, South All-Stars; capped freshman year in Wrigley Field All-Star Game with Warrior sophs Randall Shively and Mike O’Rear.

⭐ Also worth noting: 69 bases-on-balls and six triples during a career in which he hit .371 after a slow start in Fall ’78, striking out just 34 times. Four of those triples came as a first-year player and helped that team set another record with 22 in all.

⭐ Career totals for teams that were 68-43 – .335 BA (109-325), 80 RS, 82 RBI, .492 SLG (31 extra-base hits) and .452 OBP.

⭐ Signed with Jacksonville (AL) State U.
